Gulf Tile Does It All

Gulf Tile Doest it All

You don’t have to be an interior designer to have a beautifully coordinated home. Themes, colors and
patterns that repeat from room to room create harmony, add value and transform ordinary homes into
extraordinary ones.

The professionals at Gulf Tile used a variety of materials
and techniques in this Tampa-area home to produce a polished and pulled-together look that suits the
architecture of the building as well as the needs and desires of the owners.

Never fussy or overmatched, the flooring and tile effects used throughout provide uniformity of design while pleasing the eye and combining timeless elegance with the welcoming warmth of home.

The soaring columns and sweeping arches paired with dark wooden accents
in this home have a distinctively Mediterranean flair. In keeping with that
theme, the modular natural stone flooring used throughout the entry level
has chiseled edges and a wide array of shades ranging from palest ivories to deep, dark browns. Inherently neutral but extremely versatile, this floor tile adapts to almost any color scheme in textiles or furnishings, and the naturally varied patterns of the stone and artfully arranged tiles add visual interest and

a sense of movement. Resilient
and easy to clean, this flooring transfers easily from foyer to
kitchen to dining and living rooms. On the stairs, the same stone on
the facings combined with wooden risers creates uniformity and ties the upper and lower floors together.

Kitchen

Kitchen

In the kitchen, the dark cabinets and beams pull the
deeper tones from the first level travertine floors. The striking, arched oven hood was custom designed and constructed from hand-poured stone and continues the earthy, rustic and Mediterranean feel. The showpiece of
this kitchen is a hand-cut water jet mural set behind the cooktop. Beginning with a stock photo, a stone fabricator used computer technology to transfer the image onto different shades of marble. The stone sections were then fused to create the image of the fish, a unique and unforgettable focal point.

The balance of the backsplash is made from tumbled Spanish stone, which is smoother and shows less
pitting than other varieties of tumbled stone. The variations of color and shading in the golden granite countertops continue the sense of natural movement found throughout the home, and the stone is marked with dark veining that echoes the cabinets and other woodwork.

The guest bathroom utilizes a variety of tiles in autumn colors to continue the warm, earthy and Mediterranean feel of the home. The shower features a completely custom effect made with four different stained-glass tiles in shades
of caramel, burnt orange and gold. Matte-finished and iridescent tiles combine
to create depth.

Clear glass shower doors and minimalist bronze fixtures prevent this splashy look from
overwhelming the room. The walls below the wainscot are finished in a monochrome
brown stone. An inset border of tiles from the
shower ties the look together without becoming fussy. A slab of golden marble tops the vanity, and a basket woven mosaic of colored tiles and creamy marble creates a striking, textured and dimensional backsplash.

Nothing conveys the warmth of home like natural wood. Upstairs, in the rooms reserved for family, dark wooden floors echo the woodwork on the banisters and the downstairs beams and molding. Softer and less formal than the stone used below, the unstructured wooden flooring makes living areas more comfortable while continuing the Mediterranean theme. The engineered planks are made
of real wood and are stronger than solid boards and less likely to warp in the persistent Florida humidity. This floor is easy to clean and has a rustic and hand-scraped look that appears weathered and broken-in, a must for any
growing family. The rich finish contrasts nicely against the white walls and
accents but would work equally well with almost any color palette.

Master Bath

Master Bath

The theme of this light and roomy master bathroom is noce travertine, a popular shade of marble known for its rich caramel coloring. Although this much marble would likely overpower a smaller bath, in a larger space like this one it creates
a truly striking and pulled-together effect. The floors, tub deck, shower walls and
built-in shower shelving are all composed of modular marble tiles with chiseled edges. The shower floor is made of a coordinating tumbled mosaic in two shades
that adds a hint of weathered warmth. The antique bronze fixtures coordinate perfectly with the dark vanity and are echoed in the door and window frames.
Truly neutral and effortlessly timeless, this room has an Old-World feel that is
easily updateable with only minor cosmetic changes.

A more minimalist look is accomplished in the second upstairs bath. Here, a
single band of decorative mosaic tiles breaks up the inexpensive but durable
and visually interesting foundation tiles lining the shower. In keeping with the theme, the shades of the mosaic tiles echo the color scheme found throughout
the home. This treatment illustrates the possibility of achieving luxurious looks
on a minimal budget.
