WFLA-TV Daytime Interviews Gulf Tile

When WFLA-TV’s Daytime host, Cyndy Edwards recently interviewed Gulf Tile’s President, Frank John Garcia and Vice President, Lou Piniella, Jr. she found out the hottest trends in tile and flooring.  She even enjoyed some time in the bath section of our design center and learned about the overall trends in bathroom design.

Flooring and Tile Trends

As Lou Piniella, Jr. explained, wood porcelain flooring is “super hot”.  The advantage is that this type of material stands up to Florida’s sun, sand, water, and heat.  Wood porcelain achieves the warmth and look of natural wood but is more functional allowing a family not to worry about children or pets damaging the appearance of the porcelain planks.

Another trend being seen is the various sizes of tiles being used, but the larger sizes seem to be more popular.  The larger tiles have been used for flooring and have decreased the use of grout.  Many homeowners are using larger tiles for the walls that help enhance the size of the space.

Bathroom Trends

For the bathroom, there are countless design opportunities.  Overall trends include rustic, clean traditional, glass, neutral, and stone with accents pieces.   Frank John Garcia explained that tile comes in so many different sizes and shapes, and has seen a rise in the use of geometric shapes.  Geometric shapes are not only used for accents but also for walls.
A new technique combining exotic stones by a waterjet cutting processes and piecing them together to make an intricate design is yet another popular look.  These have been used for feature stripes or for the whole wall which give you a custom look.

With the many trends happening in today’s market, Gulf Tile continues to carry tile for every level of need with many items in stock.  If an item needs to be ordered,  turn-around time is within a week to ten days.  Please stop in to see these new trends or have one of our consultants help you achieve your own look for your next project.
