Details matter, especially when it comes to room design. Cabinets are a critical design element in kitchens and bathrooms and their style, color, and placement should enhance the look and feel of these rooms, and so should their hardware. The choice of knobs and pulls can help take a room from nice to “wow” and yet are often an overlooked or undervalued design component.  Kitchen and bath hardware is the jewelry of a great kitchen or bath design; it adds sparkle and accentuates the décor in the entire room.

Knobs are available in a variety of shapes including round, egg-shaped, organic, or square and mounted with a single screw.  Pulls are typically mounted with two screws and come in a variety of shapes including bar pulls, modern pulls, cup pulls, Griggs pulls, bow pulls, tab pulls and more.

You have choices with regard to the installation of these items. For years it was common to use knobs on drawers and doors. Today, it is most common for people to use knobs for doors and pulls for drawers although a current trend is to install handles/pulls throughout the space on doors and drawers.

When installing this hardware, the traditional placement of the pulls on drawers is center of drawer front. On doors it is common to run a diagonal line from inside corner of stile and rail to outside bottom corner of door. Then you run a perpendicular line in the center of the rail and where the two lines come to a point is where you place your knob. If you are using a pull on the door the bottom of the pull would go at the point where the lines meet and run the pull vertical.
