Celebrating 60 Years in 2020

Wright’s Gourmet House

Wright’s Gourmet opened its doors in 1963 as a small mom and pop deli that has since grown into an iconic Tampa food destination. Specializing in gourmet sandwiches, salads and cakes, customers annually rate Wright’s as one of Tampa Bay’s top restaurants, and it is widely recognized for its unique sandwiches and high-quality catering. Owner Jeff Mount has worked hard to preserve his family legacy, and is excited to take the business to a new level.

Renovation Upgrades Include Meeting Rooms and Public Viewing Areas

Over the last-five years, Jeff Mount and ABI Construction have worked in partnership with SOL Design Studio to coordinate the design and construction of Wright’s Gourmet’s complete renovation. Construction spanned over a year and a half and was conducted in five phases to ensure that the doors were always open to loyal patrons. The public renovations included expanding the dining room from the original 1,200 sf area to the new 4,500+ sf of space, which now includes dining rooms, small meeting rooms, and community tables, providing opportunities for local organizations to host events.

In addition to adding square footage, Jeff wanted to engage the public and patrons on a new level, inviting them to “See the Show.” To support this dream, SOL Design created indoor view corridors, and added exterior storefront windows that allow everyone to see the magic behind Wright’s amazing cookies and cakes.

SOL Design Studio Turns to Gulf Tile & Cabinetry for Input on Design

Knowing our wide selection and expertise, SOL Design Studio turned to Gulf Tile for floor and wall tile ideas.

The right look was needed for flooring in the dining areas, as well as many of the walls throughout the restaurant. For the flooring, the goal was to select a tile that imbued a clean aesthetic while preserving the historic character of the original deli. To achieve this, we recommended 12X24 Palazzo Castle Graphite that has a distressed look with the durability of porcelain, and just the right mix of traditional feel and modern beauty. For the walls, 3X6 Ice White subway tiles add a clean classic look to the corridors, dining counter, and kitchen viewing area.

SOL Design worked with Jeff to develop an open kitchen design, creating an inclusive environment that connects customers with back-of-the-house staff. This transparency allows patrons to see the fresh ingredients and talent that goes into every item on the menu. For durability, practicality and a visually-textured surface in this space, we recommended the 6×6 Quarry Naturals Lava Red in the kitchen, prep areas, stock room and corridors.

Gulf Tile & Cabinetry is proud and humbled to have worked in partnership with SOL Design Studio to assist Wright’s Gourmet in updating their historic operations for the enjoyment of future generations.
